Fleming's
Let’s face it; we live in a meat and potatoes town. Sure there are trendy vegetarian and vegan spots to be found, but ask the average red blooded Chicagoan and he will choose a steak every time! Since we are lucky to be blessed with so many great places to get a steak, choosing can be difficult. Don’t view that as a bad thing, think of it as the best blessing anyone has ever given you!

Since I find this reason to celebrate, I take my joyous self to Fleming’s to start the taste bud extravaganza! No reason to start slow, so lobster tempura is the opening round. Succulent lobster is battered, fried, and served with red jalapeno pepper and soy-ginger sauces to create an appetizer actually worthy of a $20 price tag. I know that’s pricey, but it is damn good!

Before we dive in for the steak we shouldn’t forget that there is fresh fish on the menu. For the person trying to eat a little lighter or that unfortunate vegetarian friend of yours, the Tillamook Bay Petrale Sole is lightly pan fried in a lemon butter sauce and served with rockin’ crab beignets. Time for the real meal! The peppercorn steak is for those who love big flavor! Prime New York strip is topped with cracked black and white peppercorns, and their surprising “F17” steak sauce on the side. This steak made me sweat with the amount of pepper punch it delivered! I’m not usually one for steak sauce but it absolutely complimented the steak well. Wanna know the 17 ingredients? Me too, but they acted like they couldn’t remember so I couldn’t make it my self!

Dessert can be decadent or it can be simple and satisfying. This meal went with simple and it did not disappoint. Crème Brule is a symphony of creamy Tahitian vanilla bean custard served with fresh seasonal berries. If all that steak has you a little full, then opt for the seasonal berries that are topped with intoxicating Chantilly cream.

Pricing is typical high end steak house, so dinner for two will be about $200. There are times when you spend that money and are upset, but dinner here will leave you smiling from ear to ear. Overall rating **** out of *****.
