| Hmmm, a hot dog joint named “Frankly Yours”? A play on word to be sure, surely the “Frank”, stands for a sausage/hot dog? Or could it be that they’re being straightforward about what they serve, in other words being “Frank”? Located on Irving Park in Schaumburg, “Frankly Yours” features a straightforward menu of burgers, franks/dogs, gyros, and more. Larger than your typical hot dog stand, “Frankly Yours” offers multiple booths and tables to accommodate its loyal patrons. Décor consists of dark wooden booths, framed sports photos, and a couple of flat panel TV’s in the corners. Study the fancy new digital menu board and then step up to the counter to place your order. A few visits allowed me to sample the basic offerings and see how they stack up. My personal menu consisted of a hot dog, double cheeseburger, gyro, Italian beef, BBQ pork sandwich, and fries. The only thing a little out of the ordinary on the menu would be the BBQ pork, but otherwise no surprises. Let’s start off with the dog. Similar to “Nana’s” down the road, the bun is poppy seed and celery salt free. The dog was served hot and the bun was steamed nicely, but the sad tomato “chunks” were visually unappealing. Not a bad dog, but not a great one either. Next is the double cheeseburger, one that features two Ľ lb patties between a sesame seed bun, and one that’s very good. I tend to gripe about Ľ lb burgers from time to time, but unlike some places that use a bun the size of a Frisbee, “Frankly Yours” bun is a more normal size and therefore the burger patty doesn’t need to be paper thin. This allowed for the burger to have a meatier texture and really showcase the char grilling. The well executed gyro sandwich features meat sliced off the spit and nestled in a warm pita. The meat is not sliced overly thin and it is not crispy, it has a meaty texture and that makes for a quality gyro. The Italian beef might be their best item. Thinly sliced beef is very tender and their au jus is loaded with flavor. Top it with your choice of peppers and you have yourself a two handed piece of beef nirvana. Finishing out my artery clogging menu is the BBQ pork and the hand cut fries. The pulled pork is very tender and loaded very generously onto its sesame bun. The only problem is that the BBQ sauce doesn’t have enough flavor to support this sandwich. Not a bad effort, but if you’re looking for an authentic pulled pork sandwich, you might be slightly disappointed. Speaking of disappointing, the fries each visit where a soggy, greasy, and utterly limp mess. Whether they’re not fried at a high enough temperature or have simply been sitting around too long, these fries are not worthy companions to the quality sandwiched they serve. Overall “Frankly Yours” offers quality food and plenty of dining space for the local lunch crowd. A solid option if you’re in the area, but not special enough to warrant a special trip.
