| There are some days when you need a nice piece of meat. A trip to your favorite chop house usually does the trick, but it can get quite pricey. Do you break down and just go to Outback? No, trust me there are better alternatives. One such alternative is the RB Grille, an upscale offshoot of Rock Bottom Brewery. A little quieter and suitable for a date or dinner with a buddy, the restaurant still features beer crafted in house.
Like buffalo wings? Take it up a notch and choose the jumbo buffalo shrimp to start. Lightly battered and bathing in a nicely spiced sauce, these shrimp can be addicting. I like two appetizers so the lump crab cake is next. Tender lumps of crab cake have nice flavor but the soft exterior could have benefited from a crisper crust. Unlike many steakhouses, your dinner comes with salad, sides, and corn bread. I won’t bore you with salad talk because what you really want to devour is the skillet cornbread. This moist cornbread had a sweet and crunchy honey glaze and my dinner companion described it as “unreal.” Two solid entrées were ordered tonight with the first being their signature 18oz bone in rib eye. This juicy steak featured a smoky and salty malt crust that awakens your taste buds. If you are a fan of lightly seasoned steak, steer clear! If you like in your face seasoning, then this is right up your alley. If you believe that you eat with your eyes, then you will salivate over the double cut pork chop. A big hunk of pork slow roasted and topped with bacon and peach compote, it’s almost too pretty to eat! Almost, this firm but delectable chop is bursting with flavor and is a must try! Room for dessert? Naturally two desserts are in order and they are far from small. The carrot cake is almost the size of my head (large) and the blueberry cobbler is still more than the average person has room for. Of the two opt for the cobbler. Warm blueberries are topped with a luscious crust and topped by a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Delicious and comforting! The carrot cake gets points for size and not being overly sweet, but does lose a point for being a bit on the dry side. All entrées are under $30 and come with all the fixings. Is this cheap date worthy? No, but you do get a heck of a lot of food for the money. Overall RB Grille offers pretty solid food; house made beers, all at decent value. Rating ** and ¾ out of ****.
