| Everyday it seems a new restaurant is closing its doors. So in these tough times how do some places continue to thrive year after year? New ideas and fancy concepts are interesting for a while but great service and great food never go out of style. Make people feel welcome and give them food that makes them smile and your doors stay open for a long, long time. Has Tuscany stuck to this winning formula or have they lost their way?
A close second to great food is a server who really knows the menu and can help guide your evening. Our waiter not only kept a wonderful smile on his face most of the night but showed true passion about the food he was describing! Two appetizers are my M.O. so why should tonight be any different? Calamari Fritti and its beautiful golden rings had a wonderful bite and show you how good this simple dish can be. For something creamier, a serving of the baked goat cheese hit the spot. Melted goat cheese lay in a marinara bath and was served with crisp flatbread for a dynamite dipping experience! Listening to our server we chose one of tonight’s specials (veal) and an entrée off the menu. First up was the Filletto allo Gorgonzola which is a butter knife tender fillet topped with chopped spinach and creamy gorgonzola. Tender, creamy, and just plain delicious! The show stopper though was Veal Monte Carlo! This bone in veal chop is pounded very thin and was so big that it filled the entire plate! Top the visual appeal with prosciutto, fontina cheese, and a chardonnay wine sauce and you will be hard pressed to share with your dining companion! Dessert always makes a meal feel complete so a couple of Italian favorites were in order. A classic cannolli and a slice of tiramisu. The cannolli had a creamy ricotta filling and both pistachios and chocolate chips on the end. My favorite was the tiramisu. Often times the lady fingers are over soaked and just plain soggy. The lady fingers were moist, soft, and thankfully not the least bit soggy. This is tiramisu done right. Prices are what you want them to be here. There are many choices under $20, but you can also find some for $30+. Overall Tuscany shows that great service and food keep the doors open and the guests wanting more.
