Yu's Mandarin
HungryZ.com
When the need for Chinese food comes knocking, don’t answer it with just any Chinese restaurant. No, you need some place better, a place with a regal name to go along with this delicious cuisine. What you need is “Yu’s Mandarin”! The name “Mandarin” tells you this is more than just everyday take out Chinese food. Mandarin isn’t regular spoken Chinese, but rather a form of Chinese used by the court and the official classes of the Chinese Empire.

Now that you’re feeling regal, it’s time to sample some of the suburbs best Cantonese cuisine. For drama and sizzle (literally), your first selection should be the Confucius Concoction. Shrimp toast, egg rolls, crab Rangoon, beef and chicken skewers surround a flaming mini grill. Place the skewers on the flame and let them sizzle before you devour them!

Before the next course, take a sip of tea and enjoy all the beautiful art  that’s on display. Now you’re ready for the main course. Served family style, patrons will find a menu filled with delectable choices. A great place to start is with the Szechwan beef and the sesame chicken. Large chunks of sweet and crisp chicken breast make the sesame chicken a great main entrée. To achieve balance, spicy fried pieces of Szechwan beef warm you mouth and tickle your tongue.

To cool off, a multitude of cheesecakes are offered (some are just cake) and a few ice creams.  While the traditional green tea ice cream packed plenty of sweet and earthy flavor, it is mistakenly served in a metal dish and therefore leaves a metallic finish.

Plan to bring more than your usual take out allowance. Dinner for two with tip runs about $55, still a fair price for the overall experience. While dinner at Yu’s won’t get you accepted into the Empire, it will fill your belly with food that is pretty close to magnificent. Rating *** and ½ out of ****.
